RUSS
PERCY
Russ was born and raised in
Kenora and has always been an extremely accomplished keyboard player.
His musical career began with a band called, “The Lakers” who
performed regularly at teen dances in Kenora. This name was eventually
change to “The XL’s” and there was always healthy competition
between “Satan and the D-Men” and Russ’s band.
Shortly before their move to
Winnipeg, “Satan and the D-Men” were extremely fortunate to obtain
Russ’s services which rounded out the band’s great 60’s sound. At
that time, the “British Invasion” was well underway and numerous
British groups had keyboard players among their ranks. Thanks to Russ
and his outstanding talent, we were able to perform these songs like the
originals.
After the band’s demise, Russ
attended University in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he graduated with
degrees in Political Science and Teaching.
Russ taught for many years in
numerous locations in Kenora, was married and raised a family He is
retired at present but remains tremendously busy with different projects
he has been putting off for years. These include promoting his music
there with numerous musicians and recording whenever the opportunity
arises.
He remains active in sports, busy
at his camp and can be found enjoying summer months on his great looking
Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Don’t hesitate to drop by the
stage and say “hello” whenever “Satan and the D-Men” perform in
Kenora and by the way, Russ still remains one of the best keyboard
players in Northwestern Ontario.
